An Impulse Control Challenge for Juno

Juno Practices Controlled Behaviour

Hi Friends,

It’s a cold and blustery day outside today, which means it’s the perfect day to do some indoor training. Today our training focus is on impulse control. Although I am a calm dog when I am in the house, Mom says we must continue to practice so I can continue to get even better. I love it because I get lots of yummy rewards!! Mom says impulse control or self-control is very important for me to learn and it’s best that we practice it when I am calm and not once I am already too excited to focus.

Sit-Stay and Down-Stay Versions of Today’s Challenge

The Challenge

The impulse-control challenge I practiced today was super fun! First, Mom put me in a sit-stay and had me wait. Waiting is so hard but I have learned that if I wait until she says our signal word, then I get paid very handsomely in treats. Our signal word is “OKAY”. So, as I was in the sit-stay, Mom lined up five of my stuffies in front of me and hid two really delicious treats under each one. I could feel my mouth water as I watched in anticipation. She then waited a moment and finally, she said the signal word. This was my cue to use my nose and to try to find the treats hidden under each stuffy. I then repeated this challenge, but instead of reinforcing my sit-stay, I practiced the same challenge using a down-stay. The more challenges the better, as you can see by how happy my tail looks in the video below!!

Happy Tail Wags. xo

Money can buy you a fine dog, but only love can make him wag his tail.
